দুধসরে গাছের ছবিঃসারা বিশ্ব যখন করোনাভাইরাসে টালমাটাল তখন এই রোগের প্রতিষেধক হিসেবে একটি উদ্ভিদের পাতার সন্ধান দিয়েছেন বাংলাদেশি কৃষি বিজ্ঞানী ড. মো. এনায়েত আলী প্রামানিক। তার দাবি, করোনা ভাইরাসে আক্রান্ত রোগীদের চিকিৎসায় ওই উদ্ভিদের পাতা ব্যবহারে ‘অভুতপূর্ব’ সাফল্য পেয়েছেন তিনি।
উদ্ভিদটির বাংলাদেশে দুধসর বা মনসাসিজ নামে পরিচিত। বৈজ্ঞানিক নাম Euphorbia nerifolia Linn; Euphorbiaceae পরিবারের অর্ন্তভূক্ত একটি উদ্ভিদটির ইংরেজী নাম Indian spurge tree।
বাংলাদেশ কৃষি গবেষণা ইনস্টিটিউটের সরেজমিন গবেষণা বিভাগের বিজ্ঞানী এনায়েত জানান, এই পাতার রস অ্যাজমা, নিউমোনিয়া ও ব্রংকাইটিস রোগের প্রতিষেধক হিসেবে কাজ করে। বিশেষ করে কোভিড-১৯ জনিত নিউমোনিয়া সারাতে এই পাতার জুড়ি নেই।
গত বছর এই গাছের পাতা নিয়ে কাজ শুরু করেন এনায়েত। প্রথমে নিজের দুই ভাই করোনায় আক্রান্ত হওয়ার পর তাদেরকে ওই গাছের পাতার রস সেবন করানো হয়। এতে সাফল্য আসে। এই পথ ধরে আরও প্রায় ২ হাজার জন করোনা পজিটিভ রোগী এই রস সেবন করে সুস্থ হয়েছে বলে দাবি এনায়েতের।
তবে করোনা চিকিৎসায় ‘দুধসর’ প্রয়োগের গবেষণা এখনও শেষ হয়নি বলে জানালেন এনায়েত। এই উদ্ভিদের পাতার প্রয়োগে কোনো পার্শপ্রতিক্রিয়া নেই বলে জানান তিনি।
গাজীপুরের উদ্ভিদ কৌলিসম্পদ কেন্দ্র থেকে Euphorbia nerifolia উদ্ভিদের জার্মপ্লাজমটি সংগ্রহ করা হয়েছে। গাছটি দেখতে ক্যাকটাসের মতো। কাঁটাযুক্ত কাণ্ড এবং শাখা-প্রশাখা রূপান্তরের মাধ্যমে অনিয়মিত (৪-৫ টি ধার) আকার ধারণ করে। সাধারণত গাছের অনুজ অংশ থেকে পাতা বের হয়। পাতা মাংশল প্রকৃতির এবং চিরসবুজ।
যেভাবে করোনার বিরুদ্ধে কাজ করে
E. nerifolia তথা ‘দুধসর’ উদ্ভিদের পাতার রসের কার্যকারিতা সম্পর্কে ড. প্রামানিক জানান, করোনা ভাইরাসের প্রোটিন ‘S’ ফুসফুসের কোষের এনজিওটেনসিং হিউমান কনভারটিং এনজাইম রিসেপটর-২ এর মাধ্যমে ভিফিউশন পদ্ধতিতে কোষে প্রবেশ করে।
এরপর মেসেঞ্জার আরএনএ (mRNA) এর দুটি সাব-ইউনিট ৪০s এবং ৬০s এর মধ্যে ৪০s সাব ইউনিটের সঙ্গে কমপ্লেক্স তৈরি করে জেনোমিক ভাইরাল আরএনএ সিনথেসিস শুরু করে। এ অবস্থায় আক্রান্ত রোগী যদি দুধসরের পাতার রস খাওয়া শুরু করে তাহলে এটি প্রত্যক্ষভাবে ভাইরাল প্রোটিন সিনথেসিসে বাধা প্রদান করে।
এই উদ্ভিদে রয়েছে প্রায় ২৩ প্রকারের ডাই-টারফিনয়েড এবং এক ধরনের গ্লাইকোসাইড। এর মধ্যে ৩ বেটা ফ্রাইডেনাশল সবচেয়ে বেশি কার্যকরি এবং এই টারফিনয়েডের রয়েছে দারুণ অ্যান্টিভাইরাল কার্যকারিতা।
সেবন প্রক্রিয়া
প্রবাহমান জল দিয়ে ভালোভাবে ধুয়ে পরিষ্কার পাতা রোগের মাত্রানুযায়ী দৈনিক ২-৩টি পাতা চিবিয়ে রস খেয়ে অবিষ্টাংশ ফেলে দিতে হবে। এভাবে প্রতিদিন ২-৩ বার দুধসরের পাতার রস খেতে হবে পুরোপুরি আরোগ্য হওয়ার পূর্ব পর্যন্ত।
অবশ্যই মনে রাখতে হবে Euphorbiaceae পরিবারের অধিকাংশ উদ্ভিদ খুবই বিষাক্ত। তবে দুধসরের পাতা সরাসারি চিবিয়ে খাওয়া যায়। তাই এই উদ্ভিদের শানাক্তকরণের সতর্কতার সঙ্গে করতে হবে। এটি চেনার উপায় হচ্ছে পাতাটি ডিম্বাকৃতির এবং পাতার বোটার নিচে কাণ্ডের সঙ্গে দুটি কাঁটা থাকবে।
এনায়েত জানান, শ্বাসকষ্ট জনিত বিভিন্ন রোগ যেমন: অ্যাজমা, ব্রংকাইটিস ও চেষ্ট কনজেশন রোগে আক্রান্তদের চিকিৎসায় দুধসরের ব্যবহার বহুকাল থেকেই প্রচলিত।
করোনাভাইরাসের প্রাদুর্ভাবের শুরু থেকেই নানা ধরনের ভেষজ ওষুধ নিয়ে খবর প্রকাশিত হয়েছে। তবে এগুলোর কোনোটিরই কার্যকারিতার জোরালো প্রমাণ মেলেনি। করোনা চিকিৎসায় কিছু ভেষজ ওষুধের কথা জানিয়েছিল চীনও।

Enayet, a scientist in the field research department at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, said the juice of the leaves acts as an antidote to asthma, pneumonia and bronchitis.
